CFD announces poster contest

The Columbus Fire Department has announced an opportunity for young artists to create a fire prevention poster to coincide with year’s “Fire Prevention Week.” Capt. Mike Wilson, CFD spokesman, says that the department’s 2016 Poster Contest is an opportunity for area youth to create a fire prevention message through their artistic creativity. The theme of this year’s Fire Prevention Week is “Don’t Wait- Check the Date! Replace Smoke Alarms Every 10 Years.”

The 2016 Fire Prevention week is October 9-15.

Wilson says that posters should be on 8½ X 11 paper and highlight the fire prevention theme for 2016. He explains that posters may be created using pen, pencil, colored pencil, crayon or paint. Children must include their name, age and telephone number on the back of their poster, as those without this information will not be eligible as a winning submission.

Posters may be dropped at the Columbus Fire Department Administration Office at 1101 Jackson Street during regular business hours. The deadline for submitting a poster is 4 p.m. on October 4.

Wilson says that the winning poster will be announced on October 5th. The winner will receive four tickets to Holiday World & Splashing Safari courtesy of White River Broadcasting Company.

Posters will judged by a panel of Firefighters and White River Broadcasting Company representatives. The winning poster announcement will also be announced on the Columbus Fire Department and White River Broadcasting Company Stations Facebook pages.
