New bicentennial flag to fly over Bartholomew courthouse

Bartholomew County Commissioners will be hanging a new bicentennial flag at the county courthouse, in time for this weekend’s final bicentennial celebrations. Commissioners said the county’s flag had flown over the statehouse in recognition of the bicentennial.

The commissioners approved a proclamation Monday morning declaring Sunday as Indiana Bicentennial and Statehood Day.  The commissioners also thanked Lynn Lucas, former head of the Columbus Area Visitors Center, for her efforts to coordinate Bartholomew County’s celebrations. The county had more than 100 applications for nominees to recognize as ceremonial torch bearers.

The Indiana Bicentennial Commission will close out the year with an “Ignite the Future” celebration from 10 to noon on Sunday at the Indiana Farmer’s Coliseum in Indianapolis.
