Sheriff to hold off on body cameras for deputies

Bartholomew County Sheriff Matt Myers says he is going to hold off on purchasing body cameras for his deputies. Myers has been pushing for the cameras and plans were in place to lease new radios for deputies along with new cameras that would work together as one unit.

However the sheriff told the County Council last night that he was not satisfied with the technology in the integrated sets and plans to separate the two projects. Myers still plans to lease new radios in the next year, but likely won’t purchase cameras until 2018.

Myers said that the lease for the radios alone would cost about $67,000 a year to lease for five years. The money would come from the county’s telecommunications fund for the first year.
