Bartholomew early voting doubles last two presidential elections

Early voting is continuing in Bartholomew County for a few more hours today, but the vote totals have already broken records.

Bartholomew County Clerk Jay Phelps says that as of Saturday, 15,657 people had cast early or absentee ballots in Bartholomew County. That is more than double the amount of early absentee and early voting in either of the last two presidential elections, Phelps says.

Early voting continued today from 8 to noon at the Bartholomew County Courthouse. Polls are open from 6 to 6 tomorrow for Election Day. You can listen to results as they come in, starting when the polls close tomorrow night on News Talk 1010 WCSI.

You should also remember that tomorrow is a federal and state holiday, and many government offices, and some businesses will be closed.

BMV offices throughout the state will be open extended hours today and tomorrow to help insure that everyone who wants to vote can get the necessary identification. BMV offices will be open 8:30 this morning to 8 p.m. today and from 6 to 6 tomorrow.

In Bartholomew County, all county offices are closed for business, though workers will be busy with the election and tallying of ballots. City Hall in Columbus will also be closed, as will city utilities. In Jennings County, county workers will have the day off, while North Vernon city employees will be on the job. A number of banks and other private businesses will also be closed tomorrow.
