Roadwork to narrow U.S. 31 over Flat Rock River

The Indiana Department of Transportation will be taking U.S. 31 down to a single lane in each direction between Washington and Market Streets in Columbus for up two months.

That work will start as soon as Friday, weather permitting.

INDOT says that contractors will be putting a new deck on the bridge over the Flat Rock River on the northwest side of the city. This is a quarter of a million dollar project with RAM Construction as the main contractor. The state says the new bridge surface material will allow for better maneuverability and stopping distances, as well as sealing the bridge surface so it lasts longer.

The completion date of the project is September 29th.
