Severe thunderstorms knock out power in area

After a wave of severe thunderstorms swept through out area this afternoon, power is out for many residents.

As of 6:15 p.m.:

  • Duke Energy is reporting more than 10,000 customers in the Columbus area without power, 1,000+ near Nashville and another 2,000+ in the Seymour area.
  • Bartholomew County REMC says more than 2,000 customers are without power with most coming in Harrison (858) and Columbus Townships. (633)
  • Jackson County REMC is reporting more than 2,400 customer without power with most in the Heltonville and Freetown areas.
  • Southcentral Indiana REMC is reporting more than 12,000 customers without power, with about 2,400 of those in Brown County. Morgan County has more than 5,000 down and Owen County another 3,185.
  • Southeastern Indiana REMC has only 89 customers affected with most of those north of North Vernon.
