Cummins announces new X10 engine

Cummins is introducing its newest engine, the X10, set to go into production in 2027.

The Columbus based engine manufacturer, says the engine will be part of the company’s Helm 10-liter platform. It is going to replace both the L9 and X12 engines and is being described as a mid-bore, heavy duty engine. Much like the X15 and B series, customers will be able to chose the fuel type that best fits their needs.

The engine platform will be offered in both a heavy duty and medium duty package. The heavy duty package will produce up to 450 horsepower and 1,650 pound feet of torque, while the medium duty will be capable of 280 horsepower and 1,250 pound feet.

Cummins says the engine will launch in 2027 after extensive validation and millions of miles of on-road testing in real-world applications.

The company says that the public will be able to view the new engine at the Work Truck Show at the Indiana Convention Center Wednesday through Friday this week.

Wind advisory extended; Fire spread danger is high

Forecasters are extending a wind advisory in our area until 10 tonight.

According to the National Weather Service in Indianapolis, ongoing west winds of 20 to 30 mph will also include gusts of up to 50 mph.

You can expect the wind to knock down tree limbs and some power outages are possible.

The wind advisory was previously set to expire at 7 p.m. tonight.

If you have to be on the road, the strong winds will make driving difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. Authorities urge you to drive with extra caution.

According to local emergency officials, due to the strong winds, the majority of Bartholomew County is under a significant risk for fire danger.

They say that if at all possible, you should choose a different day for open burning. They warn that open fires can quickly get out of control and spread.

Greensburg senior home closed after severe fire

City officials in Greensburg say that a senior living complex will be closed indefinitely after a fire there last week.

According to the city, a gas leak underneath Sky Bird Manor on 10th Street in Greensburg ignited causing serious damage to the building. No one was injured but the building was evacuated by Greensburg firefighters and police officers as well as Decatur County medics and other rescue workers.

The city says the home will remain closed for the foreseeable future and management of Sky Bird Manor is working to relocate the displaced residents. A warming center was set up for the residents at First Christian Church.

State Road 58 closing in Jackson County through April

State Road 58 will be closing in Jackson County soon as crews replace a drainage structure near Freetown.

According to INDOT, contractors will begin work on the project between State Road 135 and County Road 575 West starting on March 17th. The work is expected to close the highway through late April. The work schedule is dependent on the weather.

Signs will be placed in the area prior to the start of construction. The official detour route takes State Road 135 to U.S. 50 and then to State Road 446.

The work is part of a $1.3 million contract awarded to Force Construction.

Our Hospice seeking sponsors for Decatur Golf Tournament

Our Hospice of South Central Indiana is looking for sponsors for its upcoming golf tournament in Decatur County.

According to the Columbus-based hospice, the 31st annual Decatur County Golf Tournament is set for June 27th at the Greensburg Country Club. Last year’s event raised more than $35,000 to support patients and their families.

55 mph wind gusts expected today

You can expect some windy weather today.

The National Weather Service in Indianapolis has issued a wind advisory from 10 a.m. this morning until 7 p.m. in the evening. Ongoing southwest winds of 20 to 30 mph will also include gusts of up to 55 mph.

You can expect the wind to blow around unsecured items you might have outside. Tree limbs will be blown down and emergency officials say there may be a few power outages.

Seymour police make 2nd arrest in motel robbery investigation

Seymour authorities have made another arrest in an ongoing investigation into a November armed robbery at a motel there.

According to the Seymour Police Department, the investigation began late last year, when officers were called to a motel on Tanger Boulevard at about 11:04 p.m. in the evening on November 7th. Witnesses said that two men arrived to purchase watches but after trying them on, they ran away with the merchandise. A victim began chasing after the men, but one of the suspects fell and as the victim caught up, the man displayed a firearm. The victim then backed away while the suspect fled.

After a two month investigation, police arrested 18-year-old Donta Jackson Jr. of Indianapolis on a felony robbery charge in January.

After Jackson’s arrest, police continued to investigate and the Indiana State Police Swat Team executed a search warrant at a home on Eagle Cove West drive in Indianapolis today, where they recovered evidence related to the initial incident.

19-year-old Jayron L. Cummings of Indianapolis has been arrested on preliminary felony charges of robbery while armed with a deadly weapon, intimidation, pointing a firearm, and theft. Cummings was taken to the Jackson County Jail.

The Seymour Police Department has also been assisted by the Indiana State Police, the Indiana State Police, and the Jackson County Sheriff Department.

Vallonia man facing charges after stabbing investigation

A Vallonia man is under arrest after a stabbing incident yesterday in Scott County.

According to the Indiana State Police, the investigation began at around 2:30 a.m. Thursday morning when a man and woman were found with stab wounds on a rural country road near Austin by local police. The two people were taken to a Louisville hospital for treatment.

However, during the investigation troopers concluded that the man, 22 year old Nicholas B. Atwood of Vallonia repeatedly stabbed the woman after they went on a drive together in the countryside. After receiving medical treatment, Atwood was arrested and the incident is being investigated as an attempted murder.

The woman remains in critical condition.

Austin Police and the Scott County Sheriff’s Department assisted troopers in this investigation.

Greenwood man arrested after drug sales investigation

A seven month long investigation led to the arrest of a Greenwood man yesterday.

According to the Johnson County Sheriff’s Department, authorities began receiving tips about suspected illegal activity at home on South Morgantown Road in Greenwood. A search warrant was issued and served yesterday at the home by the Johnson County SWAT team, where detectives discovered illegal narcotics and drug paraphernalia.

43-year-old Kenji Edison was taken into custody and charges are pending.

The Johnson County SWAT team includes sheriff’s deputies as well as members of the Bargersville, Edinburgh and Franklin police departments and the Bargersville and White River fire departments.

Sheriff Duane E. Burgess said that investigations take time, but the department “will do what is necessary to build strong cases and bring offenders to justice.”

Burgess also said that community cooperation is essential in keeping the county safe. He urged residents to report any suspected illegal activity by calling the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office Tip Line at 317-346-4654.

Columbus police searching for missing juvenile

The Columbus Police Department is asking for your help to locate a missing child.

Lillian Michelle Rupert was last seen around 1 p.m. this afternoon bear Shadow Creek. She is a white girl with brown hair and hazel eyes. She was last seen wearing a purple hooded sweatshirt with blue or gray pants.

Anyone with any information on her whereabouts is asked to call 911.
