Two people were injured in a Christmas Eve crash on U.S. 50 in Jennings County.

The North Vernon Police Department reports that the crash happened at 11:51 p.m. on U.S. 50 and Showers Drive when 27-year-old William Lane of Seymour, crossed the centerline and collided head-on with 19-year-old Brittany Engelking of Scipio.

Lane was trapped inside his wrecked vehicle for about an hour as rescue workers tried to free him. He was taken first to St. Vincent Jennings Hospital and then to an Indianapolis area hospital, police report. Engelking was also taken to St. Vincent Jennings with non-life threatening injuries, police report.

The accident remains under investigation.
