Two girls were injured in a Christmas Day crash in Bartholomew County.

Deputies say the crash happened at almost 6:30 p.m. on Sunday evening on County Road 1000N near North Base Road. Deputies discovered that two girls had pulled themselves from the burning wreckage of an SUV. That’s despite burns and broken bones in their legs and with the vehicle stuck in a ditch.

One young woman, the driver, was taken to Eskenazi Hospital by ambulance. The passenger was taken to Columbus Regional Hospital.

No names have been released.

The sheriff’s department was assisted at the scene by German Townhip Volunteer firefighters and the Indiana State Police.
