A local man was arrested early Saturday morning on drug and theft charges after allegedly trying to steal speakers from a store.

Columbus police were called to Whitfield Drive at about 3:15 a.m. Saturday morning on a reported theft after store security saw the man allegedly wrap the speakers up in his sweatshirt and try to leave the store with them, says Lt. Matt Harris, spokesman for the Columbus police.

The suspect, 27-year-old Elijah J. Ferril then allegedly ran from police and store security. After he was captured, police discovered a spoon with heroin residue on it. He is facing preliminary charges of theft, resisting law enforcement, possession of heroin and of drug paraphernalia.
