County IT department gains new director and only employee

The Bartholomew County government has a new IT director, making him the only employee right now in the department.

The county’s IT department has dwindled over complaints from former employees about pay, hours and leadership. The last of the employees quit in September, leaving the department completely unstaffed. County Commissioners have been paying for outside companies to respond to computer emergencies and regular maintenance while they sorted out a direction for the department.

New director Scott Mayes started on Monday and was introduced to the County Council last night.

Mayes previously served as the county’s IT director just over 11 years ago. He has since worked for Indiana Bank and Trust and TLS dot net.

Barb Hackman, the county auditor, said that for the time being Mayes will be the lone employee. He will be evaluating the county’s needs and making decisions on balancing future in-house staffing with contract employees.
