Family of five injured on I-65 crash; other driver arrested

A family of five on their way to Florida for spring break were injured after a crash on Interstate 65 in southern Bartholomew County Friday evening and a Columbus driver was arrested.

51-year-old Brian Dayharsh of Coatesville was driving soutbound with his four daughters in the car at about 7:10 p.m. near the Walesboro exit when a vehicle drive by 39-year-old Bryan Davis of Columbus rear-ended the family vehicle.

Davis was not injured in the crash. Four of the occupants in the family vehicle were taken to Columbus Regional Hospital for treatment. A 12-year-old daughter was trapped in the wreckage and had to be cut free by firefighters. She was flown by Lifeline helicopter to IU Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.

Authorities had received several calls of Davis driving erratically before the crash. He was arrested on a charge of driving under the influence.
