Shoplifting call leads to drug arrest

A Columbus man was arrested on drug charges Thursday after allegedly shoplifting a coat from a Whitfield Drive store.

Sgt. Matt Harris, spokesman for the Columbus Police Department says officers were called to the store at about 8 p.m. Thursday on a report from store security about a shoplifter. The security officers said that they saw 52-year-old Richard D. Bunch of Columbus remove items from their packaging and he allegedly removed his old coat and took a new one.

Bunch was arrested and while searching him, police allegedly found methamphetamine in his wallet, Harris said. Bunch is facing preliminary charges of possession of methamphetamine and theft.
